A Novel by Jessica.

Well I have not blogged in awhile, Seems to me if it could happen, it did happen. I have had a stressful couple weeks and have not been handling it as gracefully as I would have liked.

rn

I had a one day visit from TOM and the entire weeks worth of emotions and attitude to go with it.

rn

My baby sister had a mini breakdown of sorts, I wont go into detail as it is personal and very, very scary and out of character for her. But we are nearly over that hump now. Im at her house as we speak. I took her kids and got them some clothes as there pain in the butt LAZY father has not done it as promised and my sissy was gonna try and take them and I wouldnt let her as she was toooo tired and needed sleep. So im down three bills, However I inteand for daddy boy to give me some back! I should not bitch too much about him as at least he cleaned the houde up a little while we were at lunch. So this has taken its toll.

rn

Then I was basically kicked outta my ouw house as the young roomies decided to through a BBQ without consulting us, (I was coming off a long hard 12 hour shift at 7pm) When I finally got home at 10:40pm the BBQ had turned into Poker night in the basement which is righ below my bedroom. Now I wasnt ready for be so I was just going to go into my living room and relax….untill I discovered someones kid sleeping in there! (The roomies have there own living room and bedrooms upstairs to boot) Then if thats not bad enough on of the guest comes up from the basement toting an infant in a car seat and she set the abby down and said she wont bother you much she doesnt cry loud and left!!!!!!! I was so blown away I couldnt speak. I got up shut off the lights and went to my room. Which was soo loud I could not even hear my TV. So I threw on my tennies and a coat over my jammies and went to the business to sleep so I could get up to work at 7am! I was sooooo mad.

rn

I know unbeleivable. Well needless to say I told hubby it is time for them to get there own place ans we only had them staying there as they donw make alot of cash and well,. I’ve had enough.

rn

Me and hubby up and left Saturday and headed up north. We took the dogs and checked out our campsite for July. Then visited my Great Aunt Edna for a few hours and eventually got to my big bros house where him and his awsome wife put us up for the night. I even got a venison breakfast the next morning.too cool. We had a nice time doing nothing.

rn

My roomies van is junk and she bought a car that is even worst junk in my opinion, my brother is fixing it as we speak as it is not safe for her to drive witht he baby.Which of coarse leaves me as her only sorce of suppport and chauffer…grrrrr

rn

big hearts seems to just get taken advantage of. Im truly sick of people taking atvantage of us.

rn

On a bright note, my little bought of depression has not knocked me off plan. Still losing right along. Thank goodness! I went and got my hair changed. It looks awsome. When I get home I will take a picture to share. It was a boost I needed for sure.

rn

Well there was a million other things that happened but I’ve already put them behind me…the above are still just on the outskirts of my irritation. So I have to go help my bro int he garage. Talk at everyone later. Thanks for the vent session! BB~

How to Read a Food Label

rn
rn

rn

Understanding what’s in the foods you buy is key to stocking a nutritious kitchen. Yet food labels are not always easy to decipher. What exactly are you getting when you buy “juice,” a “multigrain” bread, or a “low-fat food”?

rn

Throw in terms like “fresh,” “no additives,” and “natural,” and the confusion meter rises. Though they look good on packages, these terms aren’t regulated, so they don’t necessarily mean a food is better for you.

rn

If you’re confused by food labels, you’re not alone. A 2005 survey by AJ Nielsen & Co. found that half of consumers understood nutrition labels only “in part,” although 2 out of 10 said they consistently read them.

rn

The secret to reading a food label is knowing what to look for. If you understand the label lingo, it’s not so difficult to make the healthiest purchases.

rn

The most important and reliable information on the label can be found on the nutrition facts panel and the ingredient listing.

rn

Here is the information that’s most essential:

rn
    rn
  • Calories. Despite all the talk about carbs and fat, calories are what counts for weight control. So the first thing to look for on a label is the number of calories per serving. The FDA’s new Calories Count program aims to make calorie information on labels easier to find by putting it in larger, bolder type. rn
  • Serving size and number of servings per container. This information is critical to understanding everything else on the label. My daughter was horrified when she realized that the ice-cream sandwich she regularly ate had twice the calories she thought it did. Her confusion arose because some manufacturers take what most of us would consider a single-serve container and call it two servings, hoping the numbers on the label will look better to consumers. rn
  • Dietary Fiber. It helps fill you up, and you need at least 25 grams daily. To be considered high in fiber, a food must contain least 5 grams per serving. Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains provide fiber. rn
  • Fat. Fat has more calories per gram than carbs or protein, and all fats have 9 calories/gram. Choose unsaturated fats whenever possible, and limit foods with saturated and trans fats (also called trans fatty acids). Manufacturers are required to list the amount of trans fat per serving starting Jan. 1, 2006, and this information is already showing up on labels. In the meantime, look for terms such as “partially hydrogenated” or “hydrogenated,” which indicate the product contains trans fats. rn
  • Sodium per serving. Sodium should be restricted to 2,300 mg per day (that’s less than 1 teaspoon of salt) for healthy adults, and 1,500 mg for those with health problems or family histories of high blood pressure. To reduce your sodium intake, choose less processed foods. rn
  • Sugar. It adds plenty of calories, and is often listed on the label in “alias” terms, like “high fructose corn syrup,” “dextrose,” “invert sugar,” “turbinado,” etc. Choose foods with less than 5 grams per serving to help control calories. rn
  • % Daily Value (% DV). This reflects the percentage of a certain nutrient that the food supplies, based on a 2,000 calorie diet. It gives you a rough idea of the food’s nutrient contribution to your diet. The nutrients highlighted in the % DV are a partial list, limited to those of concern to the typical American. rn
  • Ingredient List. Manufacturers are required to list all of the ingredients contained in the product by weight. A jar of tomato sauce with tomatoes as the first ingredient lets you know that tomatoes are the main ingredient. The spice or herb listed last is contained in the least amount. This information is critical for anyone who has allergies, and for prudent shoppers who want, say, more tomatoes than water, or whole grain as the leading ingredient.
rn

The FDA sets specific rules for what food manufacturers can call “light,” “low,” “reduced,” “free,” and other food terms. Here’s the low-down on interpreting these terms:

rn”Is organic food really better than conventional foods? Not necessarily.”rn
    rn
  • “Healthy” food must be low in fat, with limited cholesterol and sodium. rn
  • Anything labeled “free” must only contain tiny amounts of the ingredient in each serving. For example, “trans-fat free” or “fat-free” products can have only 0.5 mg of trans fats or fat; “cholesterol-free” foods can only have 2 milligrams of cholesterol and 2 grams of saturated fat. rn
  • A serving of a food labeled “low sodium” can have a maximum of 140 milligrams of sodium. rn
  • A serving of “low cholesterol” food can have a maximum of 20 milligrams of cholesterol and 2 grams of saturated fat. rn
  • One serving of a “low-fat” food can have a maximum of 3 grams of fat. rn
  • A serving of a “low-calorie” food can have a maximum of 40 calories. rn
  • A serving of a food labeled “reduced” must have 25% less of the ingredient (such as fat) than a serving of the regular version. rn
  • One serving of a “light” food must have 50% less fat or 1/3 fewer calories than the regular version.
rn

Is ‘Organic’ Better?

rn

The term “organic” has been one you can trust since 2002, when the U.S. Department of Agriculture established strict criteria for products claiming this distinction. Products declared organic must be produced without conventional pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, biotechnology, or ionizing radiation. “Organic” animals must be fed organic feed and not be injected with hormones or antibiotics.

rn

But is organic food really better than conventional foods? Not necessarily. It depends on a number of factors, such as growing conditions, how the foods are stored, and which nutrients you’re looking for.

rn

Organic foods have the same number of calories, fats, proteins and carbohydrates as their conventional counterparts. Their nutritional composition depends on the soil, climate, growing conditions, and the amount of time it took to get it from farm to table.

rn

Eating a freshly picked piece of produce, organically grown or not, is the ultimate in good nutrition as time has the greatest impact on food quality. Certain fruits and vegetables grown without chemical pesticides may have higher levels of antioxidants. But there is not a striking difference in the nutritional quality of organic products vs. conventionally grown ones. The real question: Is organic produce worth the extra cost? Some people are adamant about having pesticide-free produce. I have seen the ravages of insect infestation and think pesticides are necessary to provide good crop yield. My strategy is to wash all produce carefully and enjoy the bounty of produce at a lower cost.

rn

Keep in mind that the Environmental Protection Agency sets acceptable levels of pesticide residue for produce that are much higher than what is generally found on the foods we buy. The decision is yours.

Its a start…

Well I’ve posted my first before and after photo’s. I decided to take one after my sister stoped over and said wow you can really tell your losing weight. I dont see a whole lot of diffrences but I think by next month if I stay OP I should be able to see it a little better. Cant wait.

rn

We got our car back! Thank goodness. There was no body damage but the stearing colum has to be replaced and something about a new key as well as see if I can get the oil stains outta the seats. Or else buy covers…grrrr…some people!

rn

Been the the gym every day this week and calories are still between 1000-1400 most of the time right around 1200. Only lost 1.5lbs this week, so that is a bit of a disappointent.

rn

Mom has a cyst next to her eye, its huge and painful. She was suppose to have it cut out today however they found it infected and had to postpone it untill the infection clears.

rn

Roommate lost her breaks today. Scared the crap out of her. Had to check it out and enlist the help of moms boyfriend….who we will say is a typical male….

rn

Other best friend was fired on her 7 year anniversary with the company! For completly bull shit reason. She has a morgage, single mom with 2 kids. And now, no income.

rn

Worked our butts off this week, raked the front yard and cleaned up the garbage. Cleaned and rearranged the entire 1st floor of the house. I am very happy to report I reclaimed the guest bedroom for some much needed private space! I love it.

rn

Ran into only of my old employees with her beautiful 6 month old baby boy. She looks good and it sounds like everything is going well for her!

rn

Well thats it in a nut shell. Yak at ya later.

I am this — close to losing it!

It has been the weekend from hell. I was so geeked for an excellent weekend after my weigh in and what did I get?  A big fat pain in the arse! My brother borrowed my car to go to the city for a friends bday party only to wake up the next day and find my car stolen. Yes stolen. Well needless to say we only have full coverage on the dodge so we are SOL on the olds. I am just so sick. I feel so violated I can not even tell you. To top matters off I’ve been off plan all weekend feeling sorry for myself. I missed the gym saturday because the freakin pontiac police would not let my brother file the report so we had to leave at 7:30 am and drive all the way over there to file the damn report! And of coarse curves closes at 11am saturday! GRRR! However I did drag my arse tot eh gym this morning and thankfully the scale continues to smile on me (darn good thing too as I would have been very easily convinced to eat every one of those damn girl scout cookies I ordered before the first of the year!) OK well I am soory I have not gotten to read anyones blog this weekend. I will try an catch up soon. I hope everyone is having a way better few days than me!

Can I have a drum roll please….

dudududududududdududududu (typed version of a drum roll !)

rn

Well Today was my first monthly weigh in at Curves. And I am nearly breaking my arm patting myself on the back. I am sooo thrilled I think I may break out into dance at any moment!

rn

My Curves Weigh In Data!

rn

Lost 15lbs and a total of 12.75 inches this last month! Wooo-Hoo! Im so happy I cant type lol I think I am gonna rearange the sunroom! Burn more calorie! Hope everyone is having a great week!!

rn

Oh by the way I am changing my ticker to reflect the curves scale. So I can keep track of it better!

rn

?

Hmmm

Well no curves today so I rented a couple yoga videos from the library. Im not sure what to think yet. I did a practice round this morning and the streching is grand, but it doesnt really feel like exercise. I have yet to watch the Yoga for weight loss yet, but I have a hard time understanding how you lose weight with yoga. I guess we will see. I am gonna give it a try a couple days a week in addition to Curves as I read something that said you need to change up your exercise routines to keep your body burning caloories at an optimum level…anyone else do yoga…whats the story?

rn

Well I put on the shirt I just bought like 3 weeks ago, it fit ok then but was a tad snug (I couldnt pass them up, beautiful croc. tanks for 5$ each…) anyway it fits way better, almost two loose in the waist bust area already! Oh well I will just have to give them away when they are too big!

rn

Well I am reading Weight Loss For Dummies. I figured it couldnt hurt and it is intresting. There is alot of good info and Im only 1/4 of the way into it!

rn

Well I am debating about attending a meet and greet for a local area group tonight- not weight loss related. Im not usually the kind of person who shows up at stuff when I dont know someone who already goes….so Im not sure. Its at 6pm so I got a bit to decide. I’ve just been thinking a lot of my problem is staying at home and not being involved with anything so I might just go!

Thanks Buddies.

Thanks for all the comments yesterday to my irked blog….lol I have no idea why it bugged me so bad but you all came to the rescue. Thanks for showing the love.

rn

Made it to the gym today. Scale is still smiling on me :-) Yah!

rn

Somedays there are people there who just bug me, I’ve changed up my time a little to avoid this woman I just dont get. Have you ever met someone laike that. Someone you just cant get a grasp of. Shes not rude or mean or anything, shes actully kinda a middle aged mousy lady who seems to be in good health and at a good weight (from sight anyway) She doesnt really talk to me much even when I’ve made attempts and I always get the feeling she is looking at me. This wouldnt bug me if I had an inkeling what she was thinking….lol

rn

Well the insurance saga continues. But there may be a bit of light at the end of the tunnel. I have someone in my corner now, a fella I know from up north. He bought one of the family cabins a couple years back, turns out hes an insurance agent. too kwel. float your blessing this way if you will!

rn

hubby is a sweat heart. I love him some much.  I have no idea why I am all over the blog today…in a weird mood I guess, weird but happy so thats good.

rn

well im at just over 700 calories and it 10pm. I just didnt have time to eat today, we are a two day streach at the business. Hubby brought me a salad that he made to my desk so i would eat something. Isn’t he sweet.

rn

well nothing intresting for me to report.Im off to read you blogs.

Lonely and irked.

Nice combination right. Every one is in their little corners of the world tonight. Im up all alone and thus spending entirly too much time dwelling on petty shit. For instance, today I was playing with  the virtual model thingy and as I did the eyes part, I marked almond. Thats what I thought my eyes looked like and my friend wanders in and says “your eyes are not almond, there huge, the most predominate thing on your face, except your honkin nose”! I was like my eyes are not huge, I think my face is well preportioned.  at any rate she spent the next few minutes arguing about my big cow eyes. I have no idea why this bothered me so but it did!

rn

and im soooo worried about the insurance issues we are having right now, so far the only coverage (property and liability) quotes are over 6500.00 a year! uggg.Im stressing.

rn

ok later im gonna go watch a nora roberts movie and see whats up!
